In their prime, who would win in a fight... Ip Man or Bruce Lee?
I get questions like this quite frequently from beginners. The problem is that both of these are legends today. No one wants to hear that their "guy" would be beat. For most people in the martial arts world, Bruce Lee is their hero, an inspiration for their own journey. We have to remember that both Ip Man and Bruce Lee were just people. They weren't always the legends they have become today.
Now with that in mind... lets look at the facts. Bruce was between the ages of 13 and 18 when he learned from Yip Man who was between 61 to 66 at that time. If the age of 18 is not Bruce Lee's prime, when was it? 25? 30?
If Bruce Lee couldn't beat Ip Man at 18 years old when Ip Man was 66, I don't understand how anyone could imagine Bruce could beat him when Ip Man was 25 or 30? Bruce would never have learned from someone he could beat.
But at the end of the day, does it really matter? Questions like this don't solve anything. They are are simply juvenile comparisons of two of the greatest martial arts legends. Just train and be happy that they can inspire you to seek more from yourself!
